Ahead of the first phase of elections in Maharashtra, more than 460 polling staff have been deployed to sensitive locations within the Gadchiroli-Chimur Lok Sabha constituency.
This early deployment aims to ensure smooth voting on April 19. The constituency, known for its challenges due to Naxalite presence, includes 1,891 polling booths, with 319 categorised as sensitive, 200 as hypersensitive, and 16 as highly sensitive, according to information from the Gadchiroli District Information Office.
To facilitate access to these remote and high-security risk areas, different modes of transportation were utilised. Eighty of the polling team members were airlifted directly to their assigned locations, 359 were sent via buses, and 23 travelled in jeeps to their respective booths.
This strategic deployment covers all bases from air to land transport, ensuring that all polling staff reach their destinations safely and are prepared for election day.
Gadchiroli-Chimur is one of the five constituencies in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra participating in the first phase of the polls. The region's geographic adjacency to the states of Chhattisgarh and Telangana adds to the complexity of managing election security and logistics.
The comprehensive approach to deploying polling teams highlights the importance of maintaining electoral integrity and safety in areas vulnerable to conflict and disruption.
The measures taken by election authorities in Gadchiroli-Chimur are critical to ensuring that the elections are conducted fairly and peacefully, reflecting the democratic spirit despite the challenging circumstances.
This proactive move by the district’s electoral officers underscores the commitment to uphold democratic processes even in the most sensitive of environments.
