During an election rally in Kumarganj, West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concerns over her and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee's safety, alleging that the BJP was targeting them.
Her allegation came a day after the Leader of Opposition in the assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, said that there would be a "big explosion on Monday which will shake the TMC and its top brass".
"The BJP is targeting me and Abhishek, we are not safe, but we are also not afraid of the saffron party's conspiracy. We urge everyone to be on guard against a conspiracy against TMC leaders and the people of West Bengal," Mamata said.
Responding to Adhikari's remark, the TMC supremo said, "There is a traitor who joined the BJP to protect his family and ill-gotten wealth. Let me tell him, his threat to trigger a chocolate bomb explosion is treated with contempt by us." "We will counter him by bursting firecrackers. For us firecrackers are unravelling discrepancies in PM Care Fund and 'jumla' of crediting Rs 15 lakh in every citizen's bank account. He only peddles falsehood," she said.
Banerjee also criticized the Narendra Modi government for altering the color of the Doordarshan logo, accusing them of saffronizing independent institutions.
She argued that the BJP's appropriation of this color was disrespectful to the country's spiritual heritage.
Expressing concern over the timing of the change during elections, she alleged it was part of the BJP's strategy for religiously motivated political gain.
Banerjee questioned the sudden adoption of saffron in various aspects, including official army residences and police uniforms in Varanasi.
She vehemently opposed the decision, labeling it as another example of BJP's authoritarian tendencies. Warning against the implications of BJP's potential return to power, she cautioned that it could lead to a single-party rule, endangering the religious freedoms of diverse communities.
