PM Modi during his election campaign tour to Gujarat had a scheduled rally at Jamnagar on Thursday. It was his fourth rally in Gujarat during this trip. Upon landing at Jamnagar airport, before going to the rally venue, Modi directly went to the residence of Jamnagar Royal His Highness Jam Saheb Shri Shatrusalyasinhji.

The PM bowed down to Jam Saheb and interacted with him for some time. Jam Saheb, 85, pleasingly honoured the PM by crowning him with a 'Paghdi'.

Later during the public address, Modi continued to wear the traditional Haalari 'Paghdi' (The region was called Haalar previously). Modi talked with the audience in a light mood, as he began the address.

He began his address by saying, "You all must be wondering why I am wearing this 'Paghdi'. When Chief Minister wanted to present me a Paghdi, I told him that, he may put the 'Paghdi' above the one I am currently wearing, because, I cannot remove this 'Paghdi', as it has been gifted by Jam Saheb himself" He also said that when Jam Sahib wishes you Vijayi Bhava, your winning is guaranteed.

The Prime Minister added "I have been blessed with huge love from Jam Saheb and the entire family. This 'Paghdi' by Jam Saheb is a huge 'Prasad' for me. This is the biggest gift for me."

Modi looked in a humorous mood as he addressed a thronging crowd of thousands of people not only from Jamnagar but from nearby district Devbhoomi Dwarka and other surrounding regions.

It has to be noted that HH Jam Saheb Shatrusalyasinhji Jadeja, who is also a former first-class cricketer and the current Titular Maharaja of Nawanagar State, had initially criticised Rajkot BJP candidate and union minister Purshottam Rupala on 9th April for his remarks related to royals and Kshatriya community.

He had said that "all Rajputs should unite against anyone who commits such acts, and when we cannot tolerate it anymore, we must come together and defeat him in the elections."

However, later on, the next day, 10th April, he reiterated ”It came to my knowledge that Rupala has apologised twice before, but that is not enough. Instead of a statement, an apology should be sought in front of the leaders of the community and religious figures. If Rupala apologizes once again, then bearing in mind our principle of “Kshama Virsya Bhushanam” he should be granted forgiveness.”

The letter also said “This election is crucial for making Narendra Modi the Prime Minister for the third time. Narendra Modi, of Gujarat, has taken the country forward. He has made the country prosperous and safe. Our Dharma and Indian culture have gained respect worldwide. We should proceed ahead keeping this in mind.”

Modi had also visited Jam Saheb's residence and spent time interacting with him during his previous visit to Jamnagar in April 2022.

Currently, in Gujarat, there is a major protest going on by a section of the Kshatriya community against Purshottam Rupala and also against the BJP in some areas. The meeting of Narendra Modi with prominent Kshatriya royal and presenting of Paghdi is considered to be an important event, in melting down the protest to some extent.
