In what can be seen as a big accomplishment, the University of Kashmir has made a strong mark in the Stanford University Rankings 2025, with fourteen of its faculty members featured among the world’s leading researchers.
Those recognised include Adil Gani, Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Idrees Ahmad Wani, Farooq Ahmad Masoodi, Mudasir Ahmad, Shakeel Ahmad Romshoo, Faheem Arjamend Sheikh, Shabir Ahmad Parah, Ghulam Jeelani, Firdous Ahmad Shah, Arshid Bashir, Lateef Ahmad Malik, Shariefuddin Pirzada and Reyaz Hassan Mir. Among them, Dr. Adil Gani achieved rare global distinction by being placed in the career-long impact category, securing a position in the top one per cent of scientists worldwide.
NIT Srinagar has also seen significant representation in the rankings, with nine of its faculty members being named. These include Prof. M.F. Wani, Prof. M.A. Shah, Prof. Bashir Ahmed Mir, Dr. Neeraj Gupta, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Sandeep Samantaray, Dr. Pravan Kumar Katiyar, Dr. Sandeep Rathee and Dr. Mudasir Ahmad, reflecting the institute’s growing research footprint.The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, has contributed six names to the global list. Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Dr. Basharat Nabi Dar, Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Rather, Dr. Muzaffar Ahmad Macha and Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Khanday have all been recognised for their impactful research in their respective fields.
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) also features prominently. Five of its faculty members, Prof. Amjad M. Husaini, Prof. Rohitashw Kumar, Dr. Sajad M. Zargar, Dr. Shabir Hussain Wani and Dr. Shabir Ahmad Ganai, have secured places in the Stanford list, underscoring the strength of agricultural and life sciences research emerging from Kashmir.
Beyond these universities, Kashmiri doctors and medical researchers at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), such as Prof. Parvaiz A. Koul and Prof. M.S. Khuroo, have previously been recognised in similar Stanford rankings in fields such as internal medicine and gastroenterology.
Additionally, diaspora-linked Kashmiri researchers like Dr. Faheem Hyder Pottoo, currently working in pharmacology abroad, have also figured in the Top 2% listings in recent years.Together, these achievements highlight a remarkable and growing presence of Kashmiri scholars on the global academic stage, cutting across disciplines from food technology, nanoscience and mathematics to medicine, agriculture and the earth sciences.
