An Air India flight from Delhi to San Francisco was diverted to Russia due to a technical issue, with all 225 passengers and 19 crew members on board reported safe.

The flight AI183 made a precautionary landing at Krasnoyarsk International Airport in Russia's Krasnoyarsk Krai after the cockpit crew detected a potential problem in the cargo hold area.

Upon landing, all passengers were taken to the terminal building for further processing.

Air India, which does not have its own staff at Krasnoyarsk International Airport, is arranging third-party support to provide necessary assistance.

A statement from the airline said, “As Air India does not have its own staff at KJA, we are arranging for third-party support to provide all necessary assistance to passengers. Air India is also in liaison with government agencies and regulatory authorities, and we are making arrangements for a ferry flight to KJA to take passengers onwards to San Francisco at the earliest.”

Air India emphasised its concern for the health, safety, and security of all passengers and crew, promising further updates as soon as they become available.

This incident echoes a similar one last year when an Air India flight on the same route faced technical issues and was diverted to Magadan, a remote town in Russia.

That Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft, carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew members, made an emergency landing, and passengers were accommodated in a school for two days.

A replacement flight from Mumbai, carrying food and essentials, later took the passengers to San Francisco.

In the current situation, efforts are underway to dispatch a ferry flight to Krasnoyarsk to ensure the passengers can continue their journey to San Francisco as soon as possible.

The airline is closely coordinating with government and regulatory bodies to expedite the process and provide all necessary assistance to those affected.

Air India's proactive measures and swift response underscore its commitment to passenger safety and comfort, even amidst unforeseen technical challenges.
