Bangladesh police once again faced reshuffle as chiefs of 32 police stations have been handed their transfer letters, as per reports. With this latest update, the heads of all 50 police stations under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police have been transferred now.
This reshuffle comes days after the transfer of the 18 other officers-in-charge following the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in Bangladesh, a media report said on Monday.
The transfer orders came on Sunday at midnight, as mentioned by bdnews24.com news portal reported.
To date, more than 230 people have been killed in violent clashes across Bangladesh since the ouster of Prime Minister Hasina on August 5, bringing the total death toll to over 600 since mid-July, with at least 44 police personnel among the fatalities.
The transfers are part of a broader shake-up of police at all levels, following Hasina's resignation and flight to India amid massive student protests against a controversial quota system in government jobs.
An interim government has been formed, with Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus appointed Chief Adviser, and has overseen significant police personnel changes, including the replacement of 51 policemen, including three additional IGs, on August 13.
Meanwhile, 13 DMP officials on Saturday were transferred, and 73 police officials were promoted to deputy inspector general status on Sunday, with 31 receiving double promotions from superintendent ranks.
