China has cautioned that the confrontational rhetoric after the recent drone incidents reported in Poland and Romania could create dangerous “spill-over” effects between the countries.

Poland accused Russia of deliberately firing explosive-laden drones inside the country in a serious provocation, while Moscow rebuked the claims, saying the Drone fired at Ukraine lacked the range and debris was credible evidence of that. The Chinese deputy permanent representative to the UN, Geng Shuang, said Beijing had “taken note of the recent statements and responses from Poland, Russia, and Belarus” and called on all parties to avoid “misunderstanding and misjudgment”.

“This particular drone incident is a spillover of the Ukraine conflict,” he said. Any misunderstanding or misjudgement from here will deepen the trust deficit. Any confrontational rhetoric will spark broader regional escalation.”

Meanwhile, the Polish air force said that they tracked and downed multiple Russian drones over its airspace on Wednesday. It said that these were “unprecedented” and “deliberate” attacks. Kyiv and multiple EU officials immediately echoed this narrative, while NATO announced a new military deployment to “bolster the bloc’s posture”.

Rebuking the claims, Russian envoy Vassily Nebenzia called it a case of alleged war hysteria created against his nation. The Russian Ministry of Defence said its drones were directed towards Ukrainian military installations and were not aimed at Poland.

The ministry added that “the maximum range of Russian drones that allegedly crossed the Polish border is less than 700 km” and reiterated that Moscow was ready to hold consultations with Warsaw. The Chinese ambassador said the international community needs “goodwill rather than hostility” and called for adherence to three principles: “no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of the conflict, and no provocation by any party.”
