Chinese media reports reveal that the country suffered economic losses worth 532 million yuan (about $74.6 million) in agricultural and fisheries industries amid the drastic earthquake. The data comes from the preliminary assessments conducted by Gansu officials.
The officials are currently evaluating the optimal utilisation of a relief fund established just days before the earthquake, with the primary focus on facilitating the resumption of production in the agricultural sector as swiftly as possible.
The recent earthquake is the most lethal one the country has experienced with a focal length of 10 kilometres. According to a state broadcaster, at least 500 temporary housing units were built for Meipo residents whereas thousands of people have been shifted to safety shelters.
The magnitude-6.2 earthquake so far took 148 lives, causing massive destruction. Among these deaths, 117 were reported in Gansu and 31 others died in neighbouring Province - Qinghai.
As per the ground reports, 3 individuals are still missing, while 1700 suffered injuries, and over 14,000 homes vanished. The earthquake further led to landslides in certain areas, causing the destruction of highways and rural roads. Hundreds of thousands of houses, many constructed with clay and mud, were also damaged in Gansu.
The western regions of Beijing are earthquake prone regions, covering areas like Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan, Xinjiang, and Tibet.
The rescue efforts are going on in the earthquake-hit areas with medication stations being set up at numerous relocation sites in the country., ensuring safety of the citizens.
