France Offers Final Rafale Jet Price Ahead of NSA Ajit Doval's Visit.

In a significant development ahead of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval's visit to France, the French government has submitted its final price offer for the purchase of 26 Rafale Marine jets. This deal is critical as it aims to enhance the Indian Navy's capabilities, particularly for deployment on the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier.

Defence sources confirmed that the French side has provided a best and final price offer after extensive negotiations, resulting in a notable price reduction. This kind of adjustment typically comes after careful discussions, indicating the importance both countries place on this agreement.

The negotiations between India and France regarding the Rafale Marine jets have been ongoing, with talks intensifying recently. A French delegation was in India last week to finalise discussions on the deal, which is now set to be a focal point during the upcoming India-France Strategic Dialogue. During this meeting, Doval will engage with his French counterparts, underscoring the diplomatic efforts to strengthen military ties.

The deal holds particular significance for the Indian Navy, which is eager to bolster its maritime strike capabilities. The integration of advanced technology into the Rafale Marine jets is also a priority.

For instance, India has approved deviations in the letter of request, which is akin to a tender document in government-to-government agreements. These changes include plans for integrating the indigenous Uttam radar into the aircraft.

While the integration of such technology is expected to take considerable time—approximately eight years—and would incur high costs, the Indian government is keen to expedite the process.

India has also requested the incorporation of indigenous weapons into the aircraft, such as Astra beyond-visual-range missiles and Rudram anti-radiation missiles.

The pricing for this deal is based on previous agreements, particularly the earlier contract for 36 Rafale fighter jets for the Indian Air Force. This previous deal serves as a benchmark, factoring in inflation rates and adjusting accordingly.

Additionally, the naval deal will incorporate some requirements initially designed for the Indian Air Force, including around 40 drop tanks and a limited number of workstations for the aircraft.

Another notable aspect of the deal is the provision for a greater quantity of long-range air-to-air Meteor missiles, enhancing the jets' combat capabilities. This integration of advanced weaponry is expected to ensure that the Indian Navy is well-equipped for modern warfare scenarios.

The completion of this Rafale Marine jet deal is anticipated before the end of the current financial year, reflecting the urgency and importance both nations attach to this strategic collaboration.

The successful negotiation and finalisation of the deal would mark a significant milestone in India’s efforts to enhance its defence capabilities and strengthen its naval forces.

As the dialogue between India and France continues, the outcomes of these discussions will play a crucial role in shaping the future of India's maritime defence strategy, allowing the country to effectively project its power in the region.

The Indian government remains committed to fostering robust military partnerships that bolster national security while promoting indigenous development in defence technologies.
