Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan recently concluded a significant visit to France, aimed at bolstering the strategic partnership between India and France. The trip reaffirmed the longstanding relationship and emphasised further cooperation in various defence-related areas.
During his visit, General Anil Chauhan engaged in high-level meetings with key officials, including Patrick Pailloux, Director of Civil and Military Cabinet of the French Armed Forces, and Lt Gen Vincent Giraud, Chief of the Military Cabinet of the Minister of the Armed Forces.
These meetings served as platforms for discussions on mutual security concerns and areas of common interest. Additionally, General Chauhan met with his counterpart, General Thierry Burkhard (CEMA), further strengthening bilateral defence ties.
One of the focal points of the visit was the exchange of views on enhancing defence cooperation and exploring opportunities for technology transfer.
Deliberations at France’s Directorate General of Armament aimed at promoting the exchange of high-end dual-use technologies, with a focus on capacity building for the Indian Armed Forces.
Interactions with leading French defence industry players, such as Dassault, Safran, Naval Groups, and Thales Alenia Space, underscored India's commitment to indigenization and modernization of its defence capabilities.
In addition to engagements with defence officials, General Chauhan also paid homage at the War Memorials of Neuve-Chapelle and Villers-Guislain. These memorials serve as reminders of the sacrifices made by the Indian Expeditionary Force during the First World War and highlight the historical Indo-French relationship.
The visit emphasised the multifaceted nature of the India-France Strategic Partnership, which has evolved over time to encompass various areas of cooperation.
