The Indian Air Force's (IAF) Sarang helicopter display team is thrilling audiences at the Singapore Airshow with its awe-inspiring manoeuvres, showcasing the skills of pilots and the agility of the indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv.

The 71-member team, led by Group Capt. Ashish Moghe, arrived in Singapore on February 12th and has already enthralled crowds with two spectacular displays.

The Sarang show includes daring manoeuvres like the "Dolphin's Leap," "Cross Over Break," and the signature "Sarang Heart" formation.

"Helicopter aerobatics are inherently challenging due to the unstable nature of rotary wings," Capt. Moghe said, highlighting the team's unique skillset.

"Seeing precise formations and daring manoeuvres performed by helicopters is a rare spectacle, and the Sarang team does it with aplomb," he added.

Notably, the Dhruv helicopters, manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), are making their debut at the Singapore Airshow this year.

Their presence stands as a testament to India's growing self-reliance in defence technology, exemplified by the successful operationalization of the ALH across all military services.

Beyond entertainment, Sarang serves as a vital instrument of national power.

The team actively participates in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, demonstrating its commitment to serving the community.

Their past deployments include rescue missions in Uttarakhand floods, Chennai floods, and Kerala floods, demonstrating their ability to operate in challenging environments.

The unit has also been involved in providing succour to the people affected by floods in its area of responsibility from time to time; rescue and relief operations in Chennai, Dindigul, Tirupati and Nellore are a few worth mentioning.

In the recent past, the team was one of the first responders for HADR missions during Cyclone Okhi on December 17, the devastating floods in Kerala on August 18 and the Tuticorin floods in December 2023.

The Singapore Airshow, attracting over 60,000 visitors, features a diverse range of aircraft, including commercial jets, military jets, and aerial displays by international teams.

Sarang's presence adds a distinctive Indian flavour to the event, fostering cultural and defence ties between India and Singapore.
