The 10th edition of ‘Mitra Shakti,’ the annual bilateral military exercise between India and Sri Lanka, has successfully concluded.
The two-week-long exercise, held at the Army Training School in Maduru Oya, Sri Lanka, from August 12, aimed at strengthening interoperability and deepening mutual understanding between the armed forces of the two nations.
The Indian High Commission highlighted that this exercise, a key component of the regional defence relationship, provided a vital platform for the armed forces to share experiences and adopt best practices.
It stressed on enhancing proficiency in countering transnational terrorism and conducting joint tactical operations.
This year’s exercise, upgraded from a combined arms concept to a bi-service level engagement, marks a significant step in deepening defence cooperation.
This upgrade reflects the shared commitment of India and Sri Lanka to effectively combat common threats, including terrorism.
The ‘Mitra Shakti’ exercise aligns with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and its vision for ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region’ (SAGAR).
The Indian contingent, comprising 106 personnel, was represented by a Battalion of Rajputana Rifles along with personnel from other arms and services.
The Sri Lankan contingent is being represented by personnel from the Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lankan army.
