In a heartbreaking incident, a 32-year-old Indian man lost his life after being shot during a robbery at a convenience store in Texas, USA.
Dasari Gopikrishna, originally from Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh, had only been in the US for eight months when the tragic event occurred. The incident took place at a gas station convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, on June 21.
Consul General D C Manjunath, who was in Dallas for a Yoga Day event, clarified that the incident was unrelated to a shooting previously reported in Arkansas by various sources.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Indian national Gopi Krishna Dasari in a robbery shooting at Pleasant Grove, Dallas, TX," expressed Consul General Manjunath, extending condolences to Gopikrishna's family. The Consulate is in contact with local relatives and, in collaboration with Indian associations, is assisting in the repatriation of Gopikrishna's remains to India after fulfilling local formalities, including autopsy and obtaining death certificates.
Gopikrishna sustained severe injuries during the robbery and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he tragically passed away on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment.
