An Indian technical team is currently in New York to meet the 1267 Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council in the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, in which 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were brutally murdered. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the UN-designated terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba, had claimed the responsibility of the attack.
According to official sources, the Indian delegation is holding discussions with the Monitoring Team of the 1267 Sanctions Committee and representatives from other partner countries on Wednesday. The team will also meet the officials from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED).
The 1267 Committee, formally known as the ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee, is responsible for overseeing the implementation of sanctions measures imposed by the Security Council. It consists of all 15 UNSC members of the Security Council and makes its decision by consensus.
Pakistan, currently a non-permanent member of the Council, is set to assume the presidency of the 15-nation body in July.
India launched ‘Operation Sindoor' on May 7, striking terror factories at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. TRF had claimed responsibility for the deadly strike.
