A temple was vandalised and set afire in Bangladesh's Khulna even as Hindu places of worship were targeted all over the country which remained on the boil after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina followed by an Army takeover.

A number of Hindu temples, apart from the ISKCON religious centre, have been vandalised over the last 24 hours.

Media outlets reported ISKCON spokesperson Yudhistir Govinda Das saying, "As per the info I have received, one of our ISKCON centers (rented) in Meherpur was burnt including with the deities of Lord Jagannath, Baladev, and Subhadra Devi.

"3 devotees who lived in the center some how managed to escape & survived."

At least four Hindu temples were targeted on Monday and suffered minor damages, Kajol Debnath, leader of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, told PTI.

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, which promotes cultural exchange between India and Bangladesh, was damaged in the violence.

Other locations that were targeted including Bangabandhu Bhaban, the personal residence of the founding father and former Bangladesh President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who is also Sheikh Hasina's father.

The protests which began with students demanding abolition of a quota system in civil service jobs lead to deadly violence in which hundreds died, forcing Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee the country.
