Israel expanded its bombing campaign in Lebanon after hitting parts of southern Lebanon and refugee camps in north Gaza on Saturday.
The campaign, Israel claims, is aimed at destroying Hamas and Hezbollah networks.
Meanwhile, the constant bombardment of civilian areas forced thousands of Lebanese to flee their homes as conflict intensified between Hezbollah and Israel.
Massive explosions which began near midnight continued into Sunday, October 6, 2024, after Israel’s military asked residents to evacuate areas in Dahiyeh, the predominantly Shiite collection of suburbs on Beirut’s southern edge.
The Israeli Defence Forces also confirmed that it was hitting targets around Beirut and said that its response was precise as Hezbollah fired more than 30 projectiles.
The strikes reportedly targeted a building near a road leading to Lebanon’s only international airport and another building formerly used by the Hezbollah-run broadcaster Al-Manar.
Soon after, Hezbollah claimed in a statement that it successfully targeted a group of Israeli soldiers near the Manara settlement in northern Israel “with a large rocket salvo, hitting them accurately.”
At least 1,400 Lebanese, including civilians, medics, and Hezbollah fighters, have been killed and 1.2 million forced out of their homes in under two weeks.
The Israeli government has repeatedly said that it aims to create a buffer zone inside Lebanon to settle Jewish Israeli settlers in the border areas of Israel.
Similarly, Israel's ongoing campaign in Gaza has killed more than 42, 000 Palestinians, including women and children, in a yearlong invasion.
As per the Gaza health ministry, which has been documenting deaths and displaced people, it has been said that around 90 per cent of Gaza’s residents are displaced, amid widespread destruction.
