Two new murder cases have been filed against Bangladesh's ousted ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-ministers of her cabinet. These cases have been filed in connection with the deaths of two individuals during the quota reform protests that led to Hasina's ouster.

The separate cases were filed for the murders of one Liton Hasan Lalu alias Hasan in the capital's Mirpur area and one Tarik Hossain in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area during the violence that led to Hasina's ouster, as reported by state-run BSS news agency.

This raises the number of cases filed against Hasina after her ouster to 15.

According to case documents, Liton was injured during a peaceful protest in Mirpur on August 4, while Tarik was shot in front of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on August 5. Both of them later succumbed to their injuries.

The cases were filed by family members of the victims, with Liton's brother accusing 148 people, Tarik's mother accusing 13 people, and including Hasina and former ministers.

Liton's brother filed a case against Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former inspector general of police (IGP) Abdullah Al Mamun, and others at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan.

Meanwhile, Tarik's mother, Fidushi Khatun, filed another case against Hasina, former road, transport, and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Kamal, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, and state minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat.

The violence that led to Hasina's resignation and flight to India, took over 230 deaths, bringing the total death toll since mid-July to over 600.

An interim government was then formed, with Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus being appointed as the Chief Adviser, following the fall of the Hasina-led Awami League government.
