Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Cancer Moonshot event in Wilmington, Delaware, pledged significant support in the form of vaccines and medical supplies for the Indo-Pacific region.
As part of India’s commitment to global health, the PM announced a donation of 40 million vaccine doses along with sampling and detection kits to assist in the fight against cancer. This gesture was made in the backdrop of the Quad Summit, where leaders from India, the US, Japan, and Australia gathered to discuss collaborative efforts, including health initiatives.

President Biden, who spearheaded the Cancer Moonshot initiative, has been a longtime advocate for cancer research and awareness, especially after his son, Beau Biden, passed away from brain cancer in 2015.
The Cancer Moonshot program, first launched in 2016, aims to accelerate cancer research through a collective effort of researchers, clinicians, and advocates. Under Biden’s leadership, the initiative was revived in 2022 with a renewed focus on collaboration and advancing cancer treatment.
Biden announced that the Quad Cancer Moonshot would bring more collaboration between hospitals, research centres, and cancer foundations from the four participating nations.
He pledged $150 million to improve screening for human papillomavirus (HPV) and to make cancer treatment more accessible throughout the Indo-Pacific.
The President expressed the importance of working together to address cervical cancer, which claims 150,000 lives annually in the region. He reiterated that the commitment of Quad nations to this cause would bring new hope and better healthcare opportunities for millions.
The US President further announced that from next year, doctors and nurses from the US Navy will be training Indo-Pacific counterparts in conducting cervical cancer screening and vaccination. This initiative will enhance local healthcare capacities and ensure the timely detection and treatment of cancer, particularly in underserved areas.
