Russia and India are poised to enhance their tourism ties with the introduction of visa-free group travel by the end of this year.
The announcement came from Nikita Kondratyev, Director of the Russian Economic Development Ministry’s Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects, during the International Economic Forum “Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2024” in Kazan.
Kondratyev revealed that consultations between the two nations on a bilateral agreement to ease travel will commence in June.
Foreign tourists travelling in groups of not less than four members, under the auspices of a recognised travel agency would be granted Group Tourist visa.
“India is at the final stage of internal state coordination,” Kondratyev was quoted by RT News on Wednesday.
The initiative aims to replicate the success of similar visa-free arrangements Russia has established with China and Iran.
“Russia and India are set to strengthen their tourism ties as they gear up for the launch of visa-free group tourist exchanges. The first round of consultations between the two nations is scheduled for June, with an aim to finalize a bilateral agreement by the end of the year,” Kondratyev stated.
The visa-free group tourist exchange with China began on August 1 last year, followed by a similar arrangement with Iran on the same date.
These agreements have marked significant advancements in tourism cooperation, boosting visitor numbers and fostering closer bilateral relations.
Senior officials from both countries will engage in discussions to finalise the agreement, expected to significantly boost tourism exchanges and economic ties.
“A signing is expected by the end of the year,” Kondratyev added.
This development aligns with Russia's broader strategy to enhance its tourism sector by facilitating easier travel arrangements with key international partners.
