External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during his recent visit to Tokyo, where he met with Akie Abe, the wife of the revered Japanese leader.

Abe, who passed away tragically in July 2022, was Japan's longest-serving prime minister and played a pivotal role in strengthening India-Japan strategic relations.

In a poignant gesture, Minister Jaishankar presented Mrs. Akie Abe with a personal letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing condolences on the recent passing of Mrs. Yoko Abe, the late PM's mother.

Prime Minister Modi had previously lauded Shinzo Abe as an outstanding leader and a dear friend, underscoring his visionary leadership and his unwavering commitment to fostering strong ties between Japan and India.

Shinzo Abe's tenure as prime minister was marked by significant milestones in India-Japan relations, including the signing of the bilateral civil nuclear deal and the India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IJCEPA).

His efforts paved the way for enhanced cooperation in various sectors, laying the foundation for a robust and enduring partnership between the two countries.

During his visit to Japan, Minister Jaishankar also met with Toshimitsu Motegi, the Secretary-General of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Their discussions centered on reinforcing bilateral ties amidst global uncertainties, reflecting the shared commitment to deepening cooperation and collaboration.

Addressing the Nikkei Forum on the India-Japan partnership, Minister Jaishankar emphasized the convergent interests and shared concerns between India and Japan.

He highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts, particularly within the Quad framework, in addressing regional and global challenges effectively. As India-Japan relations continue to evolve, Minister Jaishankar's visit underscores the significance of nurturing and strengthening this strategic partnership.

In commemorating the legacy of Shinzo Abe and reaffirming the enduring bonds between the two nations, India and Japan are poised to embark on a new chapter of cooperation and mutual growth.
