Syrian FM promises to restore country’s role on world stage.

Syria’s interim Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, has vowed to prioritise the representation of all segments of society while working to restore the country’s role in the regional and international arena.

Appointed recently by Syria’s interim administration, al-Shaibani has expressed his commitment to serving the people and ensuring that every ethnic and social group in Syria is fairly represented.

Through a series of posts on the social media platform X, he outlined his vision for Syria’s future, focusing on the protection of citizens’ rights and interests.

In his posts, al-Shaibani emphasised that the central goal of the new administration is to make sure that every Syrian citizen feels a sense of belonging. This, he noted, will be the guiding principle for the country’s development.

He affirmed that the future Syria will be one where dignity, freedom, and the safe return of displaced citizens will be fundamental values.

The interim foreign minister acknowledged the immense hardships the Syrian people have endured in recent years, and he promised to honour the memory of those who suffered by ensuring such atrocities are never repeated and by bringing those responsible for them to justice.

The plight of the Syrian people has been one of the central issues during al-Shaibani’s appointment, and he has recognised the sacrifices made by citizens throughout the prolonged conflict.

In his posts, he called on the international community to support Syria’s efforts to rebuild and heal from the devastating impact of the war. His declaration to prioritise fairness and the protection of rights is expected to resonate with a population that has faced displacement, poverty, and political instability.

Al-Shaibani also made it clear that the interim government will take a firm stance on Syria’s position in global diplomacy. He pledged to represent the country “with sincerity and strength” and reiterated his commitment to creating a “brighter future” for Syria.

This future, according to the foreign minister, will include the active participation of Syria’s youth, who will play a crucial role in the country’s rebuilding process. He urged young Syrians to contribute to the development of the nation and to take the lead in driving progress and innovation.

The interim foreign minister’s calls for national unity and reconstruction come at a time when Syria is grappling with a complex political landscape. Since the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad on December 8, Syria has been undergoing significant change, with the militant coalition led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) taking control.

The new administration, led by HTS, has faced challenges from both external and internal forces, and the diplomatic efforts under al-Shaibani’s leadership will play a crucial role in determining the future direction of the country.

In a more controversial statement, al-Shaibani also addressed Iran, a long-time ally of Bashar al-Assad, urging the country to respect the will of the Syrian people. Iran has been involved in Syria’s conflict for years, providing military and political support to the Assad regime.

Al-Shaibani’s remarks come at a time when Syria is seeking to reassert its sovereignty and independence in the post-Assad era. His warning to Iran indicates a shift towards a more independent Syrian foreign policy, as the interim administration seeks to forge a new path in the region.

Asaad al-Shaibani, born in 1987, is a well-known figure in Syrian politics, particularly for his role as the head of HTS’s political affairs department. His appointment as foreign minister marks a significant moment in Syria’s ongoing political transition.

The interim administration’s efforts to rebuild and restore Syria’s standing in the world will depend on how well al-Shaibani and his team can navigate the challenges ahead, both domestically and internationally.
