The United States has said that the world cannot wait any longer for the Gaza ceasefire, and reiterated that Washington will continue to engage with its partners in the region to push for a final and lasting agreement.

US State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller said during a daily press briefing on Tuesday that Palestinians, who are suffering the "terrible effects of this war,” cannot afford to wait any longer.

Miller also said the Gazans and Israeli populations are suffering as a result of the ongoing conflict and cannot wait for a ceasefire.

“It is time to finalise that deal. The people of Israel cannot afford to wait any longer. The Palestinian people, who are also suffering the terrible effects of this war, cannot afford to wait any longer. The world cannot afford to wait any longer."

“Over the coming days, the United States will continue to engage with our partners in the region to push for a final agreement,” he added.

Miller pointed out the recent advancements made in the peace process and said that the success of the talks depends on the two involved parties seeking solutions rather than focusing on creating hindrances to rejecting the deal.

“During talks last week, we made progress on dealing with the obstacles that remain, but ultimately, finalising an agreement will require both sides to show flexibility.

"It will require that both sides look for reasons to get to yes, rather than reasons to say no,” said Miller.

Hamas has said that they would not agree to the deal unless all IDF soldiers leave the Gaza Strip.

During negotiations in the past the Israeli delegation had demanded that negotiators add certain clauses in the agreement, which included keeping Israeli troops on the Gaza-Egypt border crossing.

To this Hamas had said they were not going to proceed with peace talks if Israel did not vacate entirely from Gaza.

Meanwhile, a recent rescue operation attempt by the IDF in Khan Younis failed, with around seven hostages killed in the action.

Hamas has warned that all hostages will be killed in case of any military misadventure by the IDF in hostage rescue.
