The UN peacekeeping force, also known as UNIFIL, said that its mission in Lebanon was attacked 30 times in October, mostly by the IDF.
A spokesperson for the force said the 30 incidents had resulted in property damage or injury to peacekeepers and included 20 from Israeli fire or action.
Andrea Tenenti said seven of the Israeli actions were “clearly deliberate” and aimed at preventing the UN force from operating in Lebanon.
For about a dozen other attacks, the origins of fire and strike are yet to be confirmed, though the attacks that were identified point to Israel and the IDF.
Further, the investigation into the incidents of property and other damages is currently being investigated.
“What has been very concerning are incidents where peacekeepers performing their monitoring tasks, as well as our cameras, lighting, and entire watchtowers, have been deliberately targeted by the Israeli army,” Tenenti told reporters at a news conference.
He further cautioned both warring parties to refrain from targeting the UN aid agencies and its staffers as they play a vital role in aid distribution, prevention of war crimes, and also maintaining watch over the parties indulged in the conflict.
“To be clear, the actions of both the Israeli army and Hezbollah are putting peacekeepers in danger,” he added.
So far in the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon with Israel, the UN aid mission, the World Food Program (WFP), the World Central Kitchen (WCK), and UNIFIL involved in the aid distribution program in war-torn Gaza and Lebanon have been targeted multiple times by the IDF and others.
The UN peacekeeping force has been deployed in Lebanon since Israel invaded the country in 1978.
