Global Outcry Over Russian Strikes on Ukrainian Children’s Hospital.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is set to convene regarding Russia's recent bombing of a children's hospital in Ukraine, an act condemned by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as "particularly shocking." Ukraine's largest children's health facility was struck amidst a barrage of approximately 40 Russian missiles across the country on Monday.

As the current president of the Council, Russia will preside over the meeting scheduled at the request of permanent members US, Britain, and France, along with elected members Ecuador and Slovenia.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for Guterres, emphasised that under international humanitarian law, targeting civilians and civilian structures is strictly prohibited, deeming such actions unacceptable and calling for their immediate cessation. The Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialized Hospital in Kyiv, along with another medical facility in the capital, fell victim to missile strikes.

A representative of the Secretary-General will participate in the Council session to address these grave developments.

Reports indicate that the attacks resulted in the tragic deaths of two children and a doctor at the children's hospital, where many young victims of the ongoing conflict were under treatment. The assaults across Ukraine on Monday led to the loss of nearly 40 lives.

Despite previous efforts, the Council has faced obstacles in addressing the situation in Ukraine due to vetoes by Russia and China. Any attempts to address the recent attacks are also expected to encounter similar challenges.
