Vice Media will relaunch its digital platform vice.com in conjunction with Nashville-based Savage Ventures, according to a joint statement released on Thursday, reviving the popular media brand that went bankrupt last year.

Vice, which began as an alternative punk magazine in 1994, has grown to become a popular media brand among youthful viewers.

In the news for its edgy and controversial material such as the three-part documentary, Inside North Korea, Vice  closed its flagship facility and laid off hundreds of employees in February.

Vice News played a critical role in covering some of the most deadly conflicts in the Middle East, such as the Arab Spring in 2010, the Libyan crisis and the Yemen-Saudi conflict.

Vice Media was valued at $5.7 billion at its height in 2017, but mounting debt forced the firm's sale for $350 million by a lender consortium led by Fortress Investment Group in 2023.

The agreement will also include the return of Vice's Motherboard, Munchies, and Noisy sections, which focused on technology, food, and music, as well as the relaunch of its social media outlets.

The acquisition does not include any digital assets tied to Vice News.

Savage Ventures, which owns several digital media enterprises, will assist Vice in expanding its audience as part of the joint venture and strategic collaboration.
