Its call sign was AJAX 1431 and the Lockheed C-130J Hercules jet was the most watched aircraft in the world on Monday on flight tracking website Flightradar24.com as media reports said former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was on board fleeing her country and heading for New Delhi following an Army takeover and violent student unrests over job quotas.

The aircraft registered with the Bangladesh Air Force was in focus even as grainy videos emerged later of the ousted Bangladesh leader near a helicopter and walking up to a black SUV which then drove away.

The Bangladesh Army announced Hasina's abrupt resignation and flight from the country earlier on Monday.

The C-130J Hercules, an upgraded version of the classic C-130, is believed to have left Bangladesh on Monday afternoon.

People the world over watched the aircraft renowned for its versatility and reliability in tactical airlift and special operations to understand where it would land.

Latest developments according to multiple sources also say she is en route to London via India.

Hasina it was said was reportedly traveling on a Bangladesh Air Force transport aircraft, which is expected to have a stopover in India.

It's not clear whether the aircraft is the same one that flew her out of her country.

It also remains unclear whether the military aircraft will continue directly to London or if Hasina will switch planes in the final leg of her journey.

The Indian government has agreed to provide safe passage through its airspace for Hasina's aircraft following a request from Dhaka, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Army has taken control of the country, announcing that an interim government will assume power following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation.

Army Chief Waker Uz Zaman addressed the nation, urging citizens to remain peaceful and return to their homes.

The developments followed intense violence and unrest, one of the deadliest periods in Bangladesh's recent history. At least 98 people were killed and hundreds injured as police clashed with protesters.
