TDP-BJP-JSP tie-up will benefit all in Andhra, says BJP National Gen Sect Satya Kumar
BJP national General secretary Y Satya Kumar.
How do you see the prospects of the alliance between the BJP, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and Jana Sena Party (JSP), who have jointly fielded you as their common candidate for Dharmavaram, known nationally for saree weaving?
The people of Andhra are receiving the alliance very well, and I can assure you that it will form the next government after the results of the May 13 polling are announced on June 4. The alliance will easily cross the 120-plus mark out of the 175 assembly seats being contested jointly.
I have campaigned extensively and gone door-to-door; people want a change.
What kind of response are you getting from the people of Dharmavaram? The weavers there are facing many hardships due to a lack of government apathy and financial support.
The reception has been incredible. Wherever I go, people warmly welcome me, showering me with flowers and assuring me to vote and support so that the next government can help change their lives through innovative schemes. The response from the constituency’s mothers and sisters has been especially encouraging. I will forever be indebted to them for their affection and hospitality.
The people are extraordinarily gracious, inviting me into their homes. However, due to time constraints, I have been unable to accept all invitations. Nevertheless, I constantly assure them about development and other welfare initiatives I plan for them.
What is the main focus of your campaign in the constituency you are contesting? Are you seeking votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or as a common candidate for the TDP-BJP-JSP alliance?
Of course, Modi ji remains the tallest leader in the country, and people love him immensely. They know I can become a common link to convey their concerns and issues to him. I point out the development and welfare initiatives taken by the BJP-led NDA Government at the centre and assure them that these will also be brought to their doorstep during the 20 to 25 villages I cover daily on foot.
I have received the support of prominent leaders such as Narendra Modi, Chandrababu Naidu, and Pawan Kalyan. Chandrababu Naidu specifically sent Pawan Kalyan to the Dharmavaram constituency, demonstrating strong leadership and alliance unity.
You have been campaigning extensively in Andhra Pradesh, especially the Rayalaseelam region. What is your assessment of the current political position? What is the number of seats that are being contested by each of the parties for the state assembly and the Parliament?
The wave is clearly in favour of the alliance. People are fed up with lawlessness and incidents of land grabbing, etc. There is a new legislation called the Land Titling Act 2022, enacted by the YSRCP Government in 2020, wherein every property owner can lose wealth without doing much about it. The alliance is promoting repealing the law when voted to power.
In the state, the coalition has decided that the TDP will contest 144 BJP 10 and JSP 21 seats. The TDP is contesting 17, BJP 6 and the JSP 2 for the Parliament. The results will enable the formation of the government in the state, and the results of the Parliament will give the BJP a South push and help the NDA touch the 400-seat figure.
What kind of report have you been getting from the people about the governance of the YSRCP over the past five years? How will you counter the YSRCP, which is quite popular among youth?
On the contrary, the people are fed up with the YSRCP government, and it has done nothing for the people. The YSRCP sitting MLA from Dharmavaram has failed to address issues like adequate drinking water, water for irrigation, road repair and so on.
Due to silk and zari's growing raw material costs, the constituency is dominated by saree weavers demanding financial support. Unfortunately, despite being an MLA here for ten years, he has done nothing for Dharmavaram. I have promised to bring the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Prime Minister's Housing Scheme) in every village, including ensuring the timely completion of roads.
If elected, what are the priorities for serving the people, and how will you achieve this, given that the BJP will have only a few seats in the assembly?
My primary aspiration is to win the election as an MLA and serve the people to the best of my abilities. Initially, I had not considered contesting the polls, but now, fulfilling the promises made to the people has become my passion and driving force.
Concerns have been raised about potential conspiracies against the TDP-BJP-JSP alliance. Is it also said that the BJP will gain from the alliance while the TDP or the JSP will not?
With this alliance, everyone benefits; firstly, we put up a joint fight against the incumbent government, while Congress will bite into the YSRCP vote bank. Besides, when the three parties form a government, it will be a very stable government that can work with a strong political will. Besides, with the BJP being in both the state and Union Governments, policies and programs can be implemented in the state without any hindrances.
Conspiracy theories always surface, but the people are smart and always vote while keeping in mind their best interests and the potential of leadership to deliver.
As the BJP's general secretary, you are aware that voter turnout has been low in the first two phases of polling. Does this bother your party at the national level, as lower voter turnout is generally associated with anti-incumbency?
No, not at all; the BJP assessment is that it will cross 370 seats in Parliament, and the NDA alliance will touch 400. This is the assessment, considering all factors. Now, coming to the assembly segment of Dharmavaram, the constituency saw lower turnout in previous elections; but now I am requesting them to vote. Both in 2014 and 2019, only 85 per cent of the eligible voters voted, but I'm hoping that this time, over 90 per cent of the people will vote. The BJP will make strides in its operation “South Dominance”.
