The INDIA bloc finalised its seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly polls on Saturday.

Hemant Soren-led JMM will contest on 43 seats, and Congress will field candidates from 30 constituencies. The Rashtriya Janata Dal will contest six seats, while the Left parties will contest three seats.

Bloc leaders have indicated the possibility of a “friendly battle” in three Jharkhand constituencies. The JMM and CPI-ML have already opted for a clash in Dhanwar.

Meanwhile, the Congress and RJD are still working to avoid a similar face-off for the Chhattarpur and Bishrampur seats.

"JMM, Congress, RJD, and CPI-ML are jointly contesting the Jharkhand polls under the INDIA bloc. Seat-sharing arrangements have been settled for all the constituencies in the alliance—eexcluding –Chhatarpur, Bishrampur, and Dhanwar. The JMM has decided to go for a friendly contest with CPI-ML in Dhanwar seat," JMM general secretary Vinod Pandey said on Saturday.

Both the RJD and Congress have fielded their candidates from Chhatarpur and Bishrampur seats. The seat-sharing arrangement has not been officially declared, and Pandey indicated that results were likely “in a day or two.”.

Soren had stoked outrage last month after contending that the Congress-JMM combine would be fielding candidates from 70 out of 81 seats.

The assertion had left the RJD and other allies outraged at the time, with members of the bloc engaging in a furious war of words.

Pandey, however, confirmed on Saturday that the RJD had been allocated six seats following discussions, while CPI-ML was given three seats under the INDIA bloc.

The 81-seat Jharkhand Assembly election will take place in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23.

The JMM had won 30 seats in the 2019 elections, while the allied Congress secured 16 seats. The BJP won 25 seats, JVM-P three, AJSU Party two, CPI-ML and NCP one each. Two seats were bagged by Independents.
