Taste Atlas, a renowned guide for food and travel enthusiasts, has revealed its "100 Best Food Regions in the World" as part of the Taste Atlas Awards 2024-25. This exciting food news highlighted Punjab as one of the world's top culinary destinations, ranking 7th on the global list.
The rankings, based on 477,287 valid ratings for 15,478 foods in the Taste Atlas database, evaluated regions by their average scores. Leading the list were Campania (Italy), Peloponnese (Greece), Emilia-Romagna (Italy), Sichuan (China), and Cyclades (Greece).
Punjabi Food: A global favourite
Punjab's rich and flavourful cuisine played a major role in its high ranking. The Taste Atlas list recommends iconic Punjabi dishes such as Amritsari kulcha, tikka, shahi paneer, tandoori murgh, and saag paneer.
The guide also spotlighted some legendary Punjabi restaurants, including Kesar Da Dhaba, Bharawan Da Dhaba, and Bade Bhai Ka Brothers Dhaba in Amritsar, Haveli in Jalandhar, and Crystal Restaurant in Amritsar.
Other Indian states on the taste atlas ranking
While Punjab shone brightly, other Indian states also earned spots on the list of the Best Food Regions in the World.
- Maharashtra: Ranked 41st, with dishes like misal pav, aamras, shrikhand, and pav bhaji gaining recognition.
- West Bengal: Secured the 54th spot, celebrated for delicacies such as chingri malai curry, shorshe ilish, ras malai, and kathi rolls.
- Southern India: Ranked 59th, showcasing the diversity of the region with favoUrites like masala dosa, madras curry, and Hyderabadi biryani.
Indian Cuisine on the Global Stage
In another trending news story, Taste Atlas also released its "100 Best Cuisines in the World" ranking. While Indian cuisine, celebrated for its variety and bold flavors, didn’t make the top 10, it was named the 12th Best Cuisine globally—a testament to its universal appeal.
This Taste Atlas list and ranking highlight the rich flavors and cultural significance of Indian food, with Punjabi food taking a proud place as one of the Best Food Regions in the World.
