A 15-year-old girl was raped in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district while her parents were held at gunpoint, the police have said.

According to police, the incident took place on Monday night when the girl took her younger brother to the toilet outside their home.

"The family, newly settled in a different neighbourhood, was asleep in their residence when their elder daughter escorted her brother to the toilet. At that moment, a group of four men abducted the girl and made an attempt to sexually assault her," informed Additional Superintendent of Police Gajendra Vardhaman to the press.

The parents were awakened by the disturbance, and as they attempted to sound the alarm, one of the perpetrators drew a pistol, aiming it at them while threatening violence.

“Meanwhile, another accused forcibly took the girl and forced himself upon her. He returned and took the pistol from the other man and pointed it at the parents while the other accused raped her,” the officer said.

In response to the complaint filed by the girl's parents, the police have officially filed a case against the three accused. The charges include offences under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape), 376D (gangrape), 458 (trespassing into a house), and 506 (criminal intimidation), along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Two individuals have been apprehended, and the search is underway for two others. The girl underwent a medical examination at a local hospital. ASP Vardhman stated, "The family was unfamiliar with the accused, having migrated to the city in search of employment. The perpetrators were lurking in the area with criminal intent."

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has urged a swift investigation and the most severe penalties for the wrongdoers, expressing deep sorrow over the inhumane incident and assuring the victim's family of his unwavering support. He called on Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav for a prompt inquiry and stringent punishment for those involved in such atrocities.
