Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday informed the Rajya Sabha that the government has given the green light for establishing 22 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.
Out of these, teaching, research, and patient care services are already underway in 16 AIIMS located in various states including Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, and Patna.
Six of these AIIMS, situated in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, and Rishikesh, are fully functional.
Additionally, Mandaviya mentioned that six more AIIMS are in different stages of operationalization, namely Rajkot (Gujarat), Vijaypur (Jammu), Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Awantipora (Kashmir), Rewari (Haryana), and Darbhanga (Bihar).
Notably, the AIIMS in Guwahati, established in the Northeast region, is already functional. The Health Minister clarified that no new proposals for AIIMS establishment were approved during the fiscal year 2022-23.
