Jammu and Kashmir Records 28 Terror-Related Deaths This Year.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reported a notable decrease in terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, with 28 fatalities recorded up to July 21 this year, significantly lower than in previous years.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai addressed the Lok Sabha, responding to BJP MP Pradeep Kumar Singh on behalf of MHA.

He stated, "There is a decline in the number of terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir compared to previous years."

According to the data, 14 security personnel and 14 civilians were killed in 2024. This marks a decrease from 2023, when 44 individuals (30 security personnel and 14 civilians) died in 46 terror incidents and 48 counter-terrorism operations.

The reduction is even more significant compared to 2018, which saw 146 fatalities (91 security personnel and 55 civilians) in 228 terror incidents and 189 counter-terror operations. Additionally, 2018 recorded 1,328 organised stone-pelting incidents and 52 Hartals.

Minister Rai attributed the reduction to the central government's "zero tolerance" policy towards terrorism.

He explained, "The approach of the government is to dismantle the terror ecosystem. Security measures are being strengthened to sustain peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir."

Key actions taken by the government include continuous operations against terrorists and their support structures, cracking down on terror financing, and banning anti-national organisations. This involves seizing properties belonging to terrorists and their associates.

Additionally, other measures include round-the-clock checkpoints at strategic points, intensified Cordon and Search Operations (CASO), real-time intelligence sharing among security forces, and day and night area dominance.

Furthermore, the government's multi-pronged strategy also focuses on preventing infiltration, enhancing the counter-insurgency grid, and modernising and strengthening security equipment to effectively combat terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
