Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a senior leader of the Congress party, has voiced his discontent and uncertainty regarding his removal as the President of the West Bengal Congress Committee. Chowdhury, known for his strong presence in West Bengal politics, expressed his feelings during a press interaction in Delhi.
Chowdhury revealed that he was uncertain about the timing and manner of his removal, suggesting that the decision might have been made in advance and communicated to him indirectly. He mentioned that he sensed this during a meeting on Monday, which led to his surprise and disappointment.
Reflecting on the organisational changes within the Congress party, Chowdhury noted that the day Mallikarjun Kharge became the party president, all other posts within the party, including his own, became temporary.
He highlighted a statement made by Kharge on television during the election period, which hinted at the possibility of his exclusion. This statement, according to Chowdhury, had already made him uneasy about his position.
Chowdhury took responsibility for the disappointing results of the recent elections in West Bengal. Despite his role being temporary, he acknowledged that it was still his duty to lead the party effectively during that period. This sense of responsibility made the outcome of the elections particularly disheartening for him.
In a meeting held on June 21 in Kolkata, which was attended by Bengal Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir and other Congress leaders, a resolution was passed to dissolve the working committee of the Bengal Congress, including the president's post. This resolution marked the beginning of the end of Chowdhury's tenure as the state president.
Over a month later, during a meeting on July 29, Chowdhury was taken aback when Mir referred to him as the "former president." This unexpected reference made Chowdhury realize that his removal had been finalised without any prior notification. This lack of communication left him feeling blindsided and disrespected.
Chowdhury also pointed out the absence of formal communication regarding his resignation. He mentioned that he had sent his resignation to Kharge, but he never received any confirmation or acknowledgment. This lack of response from Kharge added to Chowdhury's frustration, as he felt that it was common courtesy to inform him if his resignation had been accepted.
Ghulam Ahmad Mir, the AICC general secretary in charge of West Bengal, confirmed that Chowdhury had resigned as the president of the state unit following the Lok Sabha elections. Mir added that the process of appointing a new chief for the West Bengal Congress Committee is currently underway.
Chowdhury's removal has sparked discussions within the political circles of West Bengal. His tenure as the president saw significant challenges and the recent election results have only added to the complexities within the party. As the Congress party navigates through these changes, the appointment of a new state chief will be crucial for its future strategies in West Bengal.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's removal as the President of the West Bengal Congress Committee highlights the ongoing challenges and changes within the Congress party.
His expressions of uncertainty and dissatisfaction reflect the broader issues of communication and organisational restructuring that the party needs to address. The appointment of a new state chief will be a significant step in shaping the party's future in West Bengal.
