Akhilesh Yadav visits Ansari's family: calls for justice amid suspicion of Govt's foul play

Responding to Yadav's visit, Ansari's son Umar Ansari described Yadav as a guardian who came to console the family.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav paid a visit to the family of the late Mukhtar Ansari, a former mafia don turned politician, on Sunday in Ghazipur. Yadav expressed his hope for the truth surrounding Ansari's death to emerge and for justice to be served to his family.

"It's shocking that Mukhtar Ansari himself expressed concerns that he was being poisoned in jail... I hope the government will uncover the truth regarding his death and provide justice to the family," Yadav stated to reporters following his meeting with Ansari's family.

Ansari, a five-time MLA from Mau, reportedly passed away due to cardiac arrest on March 28, according to the government. However, his family alleges that he was poisoned while in jail.

During his visit to console the family, Yadav criticized the current government, alleging a decline in trust in institutions since the BJP came to power.

"We have witnessed instances in Uttar Pradesh where people have resorted to self-immolation at the chief minister's residence or office seeking justice. Deaths occurring in jails are alarming. Uttar Pradesh is leading in custodial deaths," Yadav claimed.

Accusing the government of neglecting development and failing to address farmer income, Yadav stated, "The government lacks credibility to face the people, as evident from the language used by BJP leaders during elections."

Yadav questioned the government's involvement in various incidents, including alleged paper leaks and unemployment issues. He warned of potential schemes being introduced within the police force if the BJP were to retain power.

Highlighting Ansari's family's contributions and their historical background, Yadav praised their efforts for the poor and emphasized the legacy of Ansari's freedom fighter ancestors.

Responding to Yadav's visit, Ansari's son Umar Ansari described Yadav as a guardian who came to console the family.

The Samajwadi Party has nominated Mukhtar's brother, Afzal Ansari, for the upcoming elections in Ghazipur. Afzal previously won the seat in 2019 on a BSP ticket, defeating BJP's Manoj Sinha.
