A fresh batch of over 1,600 pilgrims set off from the Jammu base camp early Wednesday morning for the sacred journey to the Amarnath cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas.

The yatra continues to attract a significant number of devotees, marking a record-breaking year for the pilgrimage.

Officials reported that this year’s pilgrimage had already surpassed last year’s total of 4.5 lakh pilgrims, with over 4.7 lakh devotees having visited the naturally-formed ice lingam at the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine.

Since June 28, a total of 1,41,947 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp, illustrating the enduring spiritual significance of the Amarnath Yatra.

In view of the large number of pilgrims, security measures have been significantly heightened.

Multi-layered security arrangements have been implemented, involving both ground and aerial surveillance.

Checkpoints have been established along the route, and security personnel are on high alert to respond to any potential threats.

Authorities have also made arrangements for accommodation of pilgrims along the route. Adequate shelters and rest areas have been set up.

Pilgrims have expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive arrangements made for this year’s yatra.

Medical check-ups are being conducted regularly to monitor the health of the devotees, ensuring timely assistance for travellers with medical problems.
