Union Home Minister Amit Shah has once again launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of lying blatantly and failing to fulfil his promises.
Addressing the media on Saturday, Shah remarked that in his long political career, he had never encountered anyone who lied as clearly as Kejriwal. He took particular aim at the AAP leader for his inability to deliver on key commitments, calling out his broken promises and alleged corruption.
Shah, who was speaking at a press conference, made it clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) manifesto was built on trust and a commitment to fulfilling the goals it sets. He highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP has consistently delivered on its promises since 2014.
The Home Minister contrasted this with Kejriwal’s administration, accusing him of making promises that are never fulfilled and presenting false narratives to the public.
Amit Shah also reminded the public of Kejriwal’s failure to honour his commitment of not taking a government bungalow, highlighting the construction of the controversial ‘Sheesh Mahal’ at a cost of over ₹51 cr.
He also criticised Kejriwal for opening liquor shops near schools, temples, and Gurudwaras, which he claimed was indicative of the administration's skewed priorities.
In addition to these accusations, Shah took a swipe at the Delhi Chief Minister for not delivering on his promise to clean the Yamuna River.
Kejriwal had famously stated that the river would be as clean as the Thames River in London, and even pledged to take a dip in it in front of the people. Shah sarcastically asked, “Kejriwal ji, the public is waiting for that famous dip of yours.”
The Home Minister also lashed out at Kejriwal for his failure to provide clean water through pipes, one of his earlier key promises.
Shah further accused the Delhi CM of perpetuating a culture of corruption in the national capital, citing various scandals under the AAP government, including the liquor scam, the Delhi Jal Board scam, and the ration distribution scam.
He also referred to corruption cases involving Kejriwal's ministers, stating that even though they had received bail, it did not absolve them of the accusations.
Shah’s criticism extended to Kejriwal’s unfulfilled promise of appointing a Dalit Deputy Chief Minister, another unaddressed issue during his tenure. He argued that Kejriwal’s inability to deliver on this front further highlighted the corruption within his government.
The BJP leader did not hold back when comparing the AAP government’s record with the achievements of the Modi administration.
He pointed out that the central government had invested significant resources in the development of Delhi, spending ₹41,000 cr on road constructions, ₹15,000 cr on railway projects, and ₹21,000 cr on the airport. According to Shah, without these central investments, Delhi would not have been as liveable as it is today.
Shah also emphasised the cultural differences between the BJP and AAP, stating that while the BJP’s culture revolves around doing what it promises, the AAP’s culture is based on deceit.
He appealed to Kejriwal to stop engaging in what he termed as ‘false politics’, which he claimed did not suit the Delhi CM. The BJP’s commitment to the welfare of the poor, Shah assured, would not be stopped under any circumstances.
With the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5 and votes to be counted on February 8, the political battle between the BJP and AAP is set to intensify.
A total of 699 candidates are contesting for 70 assembly seats in Delhi, and the outcome of this election will be a crucial indicator of public sentiment towards the Kejriwal government and the BJP’s political strategy.
