Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur has openly criticised the Himachal Pradesh Congress government’s recent decision to discontinue the Himcare card services in private hospitals. Thakur described the move as a draconian decree that goes against the public interest.
Expressing his disappointment, Thakur stated that the current Congress government has proven to be the most corrupt, confused, and lazy in the history of Himachal Pradesh. He pointed out that in their 19-month tenure, the government has had no significant achievements of their own and is now undermining successful initiatives implemented by the BJP.
He highlighted that the Himcare scheme, launched by the BJP in 2019, aimed to provide cashless treatment to those who were not covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. This initiative was benefiting millions of people in the state. However, the Congress government’s decision to terminate this facility for private hospitals has been labelled as a cruel joke on the people of Himachal.
Thakur also commented on the deteriorating state of medical services under the Congress regime, emphasising the struggles faced by patients in government hospitals. He mentioned that patients are having difficulty accessing essential services like dialysis.
Previously, those who couldn’t rely on the government system had the option of turning to private hospitals using the Himcare card. This card provided cashless treatment up to five lakhs and was accepted in 141 private health institutions both within and outside Himachal. Thakur criticised the Congress government for sacrificing another public welfare scheme due to their economic mismanagement.
Furthermore, Thakur accused the Congress government of halting development whenever they came to power in Himachal. He stated that development projects have been maliciously stopped, loans amounting to Rs 25,000 crore have been taken, and the state’s debt has increased to Rs 95,000 crore.
Thakur also mentioned that various health institutions, educational centres, uniforms for school children, and facilities for labourers have been closed. He demanded that Congress explain why they are punishing the public with their decisions.
Anurag Thakur's criticism highlights the adverse impact of the Congress government’s decision to halt the Himcare program in private hospitals. He emphasised the scheme’s importance in providing essential medical services to the people of Himachal Pradesh and condemned the government for its actions that have negatively affected public welfare.
