Nashik Stabilises After Protest Against Bangladesh Gets Attacked By Muslims.

The situation in Nashik, Maharashtra, has returned to normal after tensions flared up during a protest against anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh. The unrest on Friday resulted in clashes, with protestors pelting stones and damaging vehicles.

The violence occurred in the Bhadrakali area after shops were found open during a bandh called by Hindu organisations to condemn the violence in Bangladesh.

Nashik Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Ravindra Kumar Chauhan, provided an update on the situation, stating that FIRs have been registered, and 15 individuals have been taken into custody.

Authorities are working to identify more suspects using photos and videos from the incident, and the arrest process is ongoing. The situation is now under control, according to Chauhan.

The bandh, called in response to the atrocities in Bangladesh, escalated when protestors found shops open, leading to a confrontation. In the resulting clash, ten people were injured, and the police had to intervene with a mild lathi charge to restore order.

State Minister Girish Mahajan commented on the situation, noting that while tension remains in the Old Nashik area, the overall situation has been brought under control.

He mentioned that the ongoing rally and the presence of open shops during the bandh led to verbal altercations, which escalated into violence. Mahajan has appealed to the people of Nashik to maintain peace and cooperate with the authorities.

Mahajan also shared that he had spoken with the Police Commissioner and the District Collector, both of whom assured him that the situation is under control and that efforts are being made to ensure peace is maintained in the city.

The police are continuing to monitor the situation closely to prevent any further escalation, and authorities are urging residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could provoke additional unrest.

The swift response by law enforcement has helped stabilise the area, but the tension in some parts of Nashik highlights the ongoing sensitivity surrounding communal issues.
