Surekha Yadav, Asia’s first female loco pilot, will attend Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony as prime minister for a third term, an official from the Central Railway confirmed on Friday.
Yadav, who currently pilots the Vande Bharat train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Solapur, is one of ten loco pilots invited to the event, set for June 9 in New Delhi.
Hailing from Satara in Maharashtra, Yadav broke barriers in 1989 by becoming India’s first female train driver.
Her pioneering journey has been recognized with numerous state and national awards.
Yadav's illustrious career began in 1989 as an assistant driver.
She advanced to become a goods driver in 1996, then a motor woman in 2000.
In 2010, she achieved the status of a ghat driver, handling the challenging inclines between Mumbai and Pune on the Deccan Queen.
Now, as the first woman loco pilot of the semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express, she continues to inspire people dreaming to break work related taboos.
