The tragic death of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique has left his native village in Bihar's Shaikh Purdil in deep mourning. Siddique’s passing has raised serious concerns about the state of law and order in Maharashtra, especially as villagers remember him for his generosity and dedication to social work.

Despite living in Mumbai, Siddique maintained strong ties with his ancestral village in Bihar. His close connection to Gopalganj was evident through his efforts to support the community, including running 40 institutions in the name of his father, under the Abdur Rahim Trust.

Villagers recall his frequent visits and how, even during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Siddique provided relief by distributing sanitizers, masks, and PPE kits to protect the people in his village.

The news of his death has shocked his family and the entire community. Siddique’s nephew, struggling to come to terms with the loss, expressed disbelief at the sudden and violent nature of his uncle’s death. He questioned the safety of common people if a prominent political figure like Siddique could be killed in broad daylight.

This has led to growing concerns over the Maharashtra government’s handling of the situation. The nephew strongly demanded swift action against those responsible for the crime.

Another family member, Ahmed, called for an unbiased and thorough investigation into Siddique’s murder. He emphasised that if a leader from the ruling party could be murdered, it raises concerns about the safety of all citizens. Ahmed believes that only the strictest punishment for the culprits will restore a sense of justice.

In Siddique’s home village, news of his death spread quickly, with many receiving the devastating information around 9 p.m. on the night of the incident. A local resident shared the community’s sense of shock and disbelief, pointing out that Siddique’s murder was a significant failure on the part of the Maharashtra authorities.

There were reports that the leader had previously received threats, raising further questions about why security measures had not been taken to prevent such a tragedy.

The villagers, alongside the family, are now demanding a proper and detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Siddique was shot near Nirmal Nagar in Bandra, Mumbai, and despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries late Saturday night.

The murder has sparked an investigation by the Mumbai Crime Branch, which has registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, the Arms Act, and the Maharashtra Police Act.

Authorities have already identified the two suspects involved in the crime as Gurmail Singh, a native of Haryana, and Dharamraj Kashyap, hailing from Uttar Pradesh. These two individuals were reportedly in Mumbai and had been closely monitoring Siddique’s movements before carrying out the attack.
