The court-mandated survey of the Bhojshala Temple complex in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district has entered its eighth day, with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) continuing its investigation amid tightened security measures.

The complex, which holds significance for both Hindus and Muslims, has been a subject of contention for years, with conflicting claims over its ownership and usage.

Security has been significantly enhanced around the Bhojshala complex in anticipation of the Friday prayers, traditionally attended by Muslim community members.

With tensions running high, law enforcement authorities have deployed additional personnel to maintain peace and order in the area. This move comes in response to the growing number of visitors to the site since the commencement of the ASI's survey.

The ASI team, equipped with necessary tools and equipment, arrived at the complex early in the morning to resume their examination of the site. Two new experts have joined the team to provide specialised insights into the historical and architectural aspects of the complex. As part of the security arrangements, CCTV cameras have been installed both inside and outside the premises to monitor any suspicious activities.

The ongoing survey follows a directive from the High Court's Indore bench, issued on March 11, instructing the ASI to conduct a scientific examination of the mediaeval-era Bhojshala complex.

The court has given a timeline of six weeks for the survey and expects the ASI to submit a comprehensive report upon its completion. The objective of the survey is to gather empirical data and historical evidence to shed light on the complex's origins and its significance to different religious communities.

At the heart of the dispute lies the conflicting narratives surrounding the identity and purpose of the Bhojshala complex. While Hindus revere it as a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, Muslims consider it to be the Kamal Maula Mosque.

The complex's historical significance dates back to the reign of Raja Bhoj, a Hindu king who is believed to have installed the statue of Vagdevi in 1034 AD. However, controversies surrounding the ownership and usage of the site have persisted over the years, exacerbated by colonial-era events and subsequent legal battles.

During the survey, the ASI team has made significant observations, including the discovery of beams under the foundation at certain locations within the complex. This finding has prompted further investigation, indicating the possibility of unearthing additional historical artefacts or structural remnants.

Representatives from both the Hindu and Muslim communities are accompanying the ASI team during the survey, reflecting the stakeholders' keen interest in the outcome of the investigation. As tensions simmer and religious sentiments run high, the ASI's meticulous examination of the Bhojshala complex holds the promise of providing valuable insights into its rich historical heritage and resolving the longstanding dispute surrounding its ownership and usage.
