BJP MLAs Demand Assembly Session On Pending CAG Reports.

BJP MLAs recently staged a protest in Delhi, demanding that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government hold an Assembly session to discuss twelve pending reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). The demonstration highlighted growing frustration among BJP leaders regarding the AAP administration’s handling of these reports.

Ajay Mahawar, the MLA from Ghonda, was vocal during the protest, questioning the AAP government about the contents of the CAG reports. He emphasised the need for transparency, asking, “What is there in the CAG report that AAP is hiding from the people? We request an Assembly session on the twelve CAG reports so the public can understand their contents.” His remarks underscore the BJP's belief that the public deserves to know what these reports entail and why they have not been addressed in the Assembly.

Other BJP MLAs echoed Mahawar’s sentiments. Omprakash Sharma, representing Vishwas Nagar, criticised the AAP government's performance in managing pollution levels in the capital. He expressed disappointment over Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's promises to transform Delhi into a city like Singapore.

“Delhi has become the most polluted city today. Kejriwal’s promises to improve Yamuna and Ganga are nothing but hollow,” Sharma stated. He called for the CAG reports to be made public to shed light on the government's actions and expressed determination to take their grievances to the streets and, if necessary, the courts.

The issue of pollution was a recurring theme among the protesting MLAs. Abhay Verma, the MLA from Laxmi Nagar, pointed out the annual increase in pollution levels without any clear answers from the government.

“The air quality in the capital has been deteriorating every year. They could hide one or two reports, but why twelve?” he asked, pressing for accountability from the AAP administration.

Vijender Gupta, another BJP MLA, expressed strong criticism of the AAP government, claiming that the public feels exploited. He pointed to the alarming air quality index (AQI) levels, which were reported at around 300 in October.

Gupta remarked on the potential worsening of conditions in the coming months, saying, “This AAP government needs to be changed right now. Their inability to clean Yamuna is evident, and they won’t come to get votes.” His statements reflect a broader sentiment of frustration within the BJP regarding the AAP's governance.

This protest follows a letter sent by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena's secretariat to the Chief Secretary of Delhi on September 25. The letter urged the Chief Secretary to take necessary steps to present all pending CAG reports during the upcoming Assembly session.

The LG's office also instructed the Principal Secretary (Finance) to ensure that the “Performance Audit Report of the CAG on Public Health Infrastructure and Management of Health Services relating to the GNCTD” is included.

The twelve pending CAG reports cover a range of critical issues, including audits of state finances, prevention of vehicular air pollution, public health infrastructure and services, and the regulation and supply of liquor. The reports have been pending since 2021, raising questions about the AAP government’s transparency and accountability.
