BJP MLA Saurabh Singh narrowly escaped an attack when two men fired shots near his residence in Shiv Colony, Lakhimpur Kheri.
The incident took place on Wednesday night after Singh, who represents the Kasta seat in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, confronted the men for drinking alcohol in a public area.
According to Singh's statement, he was taking a routine walk with his wife when he noticed two young men consuming alcohol about 100 metres from his home.
After objecting to their behaviour, an argument broke out. The situation escalated when the men pulled out a firearm, fired shots into the air, and fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Singh, who deemed the incident an attempt on his life, claimed that the firing was a deliberate act, targeting him because of his known evening walks. He mentioned that his security guard was at a distance during the event, which prevented a more serious situation.
Singh has raised concerns over the law and order situation in the region and has called for immediate action from the authorities.
Following the attack, the police were alerted and launched an investigation.
They have begun reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects, though, as of now, the men involved remain unidentified. The police have assured the public that the culprits will be apprehended soon.
