The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday approved an investment proposal worth ₹8,146.21 crore for the construction of the 700 MW Tato-II Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project is expected to be completed in 72 months.
An estimated 2,738.06 million units of electricity will be produced annually by the Tato-II HEP, which has an installed capacity of 700 MW (4×175 MW). The electricity generated will help balance the national power grid in addition to bolstering Arunachal Pradesh's energy supply.
Arunachal Pradesh's government and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) will collaborate to carry out the project. In addition to 436.13 crore in Central Financial Assistance for the state's equity share, the Centre will budget 458.79 crore for roads, bridges, and related transmission lines.

The project will provide 12 pc free power to Arunachal Pradesh, with an additional 1 pc designated for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). According to officials, in accordance with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the project will result in major socioeconomic development in the area, including better infrastructure, job opportunities, and advantages for regional suppliers and MSMEs.
Additionally, about 32.88 km of roads and bridges will be built as part of the development; the majority of these will be kept open for local use. Hospitals, schools, marketplaces, and playgrounds will all be financed with ₹20 crore in dedicated project funds.
