Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, along with Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Navy Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, on Wednesday briefed President Droupadi Murmu on Operation Sindoor, providing insights into the successful military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
"General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff, along with General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, and Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, called on President Droupadi Murmu and briefed her about Operation Sindoor," a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on its social media platform X.
The interaction, aimed at offering a direct perspective from the apex leadership of the armed forces, emphasised the coordinated response and effective execution of new-age multi-domain operations. This came against the backdrop of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead and prompted India to launch a decisive military response on May 7.
Operation Sindoor, according to the Indian Armed Forces, was a meticulously planned and executed campaign targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation, which involved the Army, Navy, and Air Force, resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen, significantly degrading their operational capabilities.

"General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), along with General Upendra Dwivedi (COAS), Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi (CNS) and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh (CAS) provide a direct perspective from the Apex Leadership of Indian Armed Forces into the successful conduct of Operation Sindoor. Insights on the Tri-Services synergy achieved through clearly stated Strategic guidance, and the successful execution of new-age multi-domain operations, with an exceptional degree of Jointness and Integration, deliberated with Veterans and Think Tanks," Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff noted in a statement.
The operation, which spanned several days, saw Indian forces targeting key terror bases, communication nodes, and supply lines across 11 airbases in Pakistan, crippling their operational networks. This included precision strikes on radar installations, command centres, and ammunition depots, severely restricting the adversary’s capacity to launch further attacks.
Following the initial strikes, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) and attempted drone incursions along the international border, prompting India to escalate its response, leading to intense military exchanges. The offensive, however, concluded with an understanding to cease hostilities on May 10, marking a significant moment in the ongoing security dynamics of the region.
Military sources have indicated that the success of Operation Sindoor underscores the growing capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces to conduct high-intensity, joint operations with a high degree of precision and coordination. It also demonstrated India’s resolve to respond decisively to provocations, reinforcing its commitment to national security and regional stability.
