CISF all set for formal induction at Parliament

CISF personnel will provide counter-terrorist and anti-sabotage cover to the Parliament, its members, and staff.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is set to formally take over the security of the Parliament complex in Delhi, with a contingent of 3,317 personnel led by 29 officers, the official sources cited on Wednesday.

The officers, including a deputy inspector general, senior commandant, commandants, deputy commandants, and assistant commandants, will provide armed security cover to the complex. The CISF took over the security of the Parliament from CRPF and Delhi Police in May, following a security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.

The CISF personnel will provide counter-terrorist and anti-sabotage cover to the Parliament, its members, and staff. They will be deployed at various points within the complex, including entry gates, CCTV monitoring control rooms, communication centers, pass sections, and watch towers. The force has also deployed canine squads, fire fighting personnel, and fire tenders.

The induction of CISF personnel will be formalized before the next Parliament session begins on July 22.

The deployment of CISF personnel is seen as a significant upgrade in the security of the Parliament complex, which has been a sensitive and important facility.

The move comes after a major security breach in December 2023, when two persons jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber and released yellow smoke from canisters. The CISF will work in coordination with other central armed police forces and Delhi Police to ensure the security of the Parliament complex.
