In Chhattisgarh, the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, is running an initiative called ‘Sampoornata Abhiyan’ aimed at supporting the Pando tribe, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) in the Surajpur district.
This programme brings the benefits of various government schemes directly to the tribal population in their own village, helping to make essential services more accessible to them.
Every Wednesday, officials from different departments set up a special camp in Madanpur village, which is inhabited by the Pando tribe.
These camps are designed to address various issues faced by the tribal community, including resolving revenue cases, updating Aadhaar cards, and helping with the issuance of important documents like the Ayushman Bharat health card.
The government’s approach ensures that these services are available right within the village, saving people the trouble of travelling long distances to access them.
The camps also play an educational role. Tribal residents are informed about essential healthcare topics such as vaccinations, sickle cell anaemia, and tuberculosis testing.
They are also given information about other government schemes that they may be eligible for, allowing them to make use of these benefits more effectively. These efforts are part of a larger goal to uplift PVTGs in Chhattisgarh, and the Sampoornata Abhiyan is a crucial step in that direction.
Residents of Madanpur village have expressed their appreciation for the programme. Anita Rathiya, a local, shared that the camp has been a valuable resource for the community, especially when it comes to medical tests and the availability of medicines.
She highlighted that, previously, many people in the village were unsure of where to go or who to approach for help with various issues, but the camps have made it much easier for them to get assistance. She described the initiative as a "boon" for the people of the village.
Phoolsundari Pando, another resident, mentioned that the camp has been especially beneficial because it allows people to obtain necessary documents without having to travel to the district headquarters.
This has significantly reduced the burden on the community, making government services more accessible and convenient for them.
The Sampoornata Abhiyan is inspired by the Pradhan Mantri Jan Man Yojana, according to Surajpur Collector Rohit Vyas. He explained that the government’s aim is to connect the Pando tribe to as many government schemes as possible.
To achieve this, camps are being organised in all six blocks of the Surajpur district every Wednesday. Before launching the initiative, the administration conducted a detailed survey at the panchayat level to gather information about the Pando community.
The survey included details about the number of members in each family and the schemes they were currently benefiting from, as well as those they were not yet accessing.
The survey results showed that many members of the Pando tribe were missing out on several government schemes. Based on these findings, the administration decided to establish the weekly camps to bridge this gap. The initiative has already made a significant impact, with around 20,000 families benefiting from it so far.
Sampoornata Abhiyan is a national campaign launched by the NITI Aayog, aimed at achieving saturation in 12 key social sector indicators across India’s 500 Aspirational Blocks and 112 Aspirational Districts.
The campaign’s main objectives include bridging developmental gaps, bringing about transformative changes in communities, enhancing the quality of life, creating opportunities for economic growth, and fostering sustainable development.
