Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled the logo of Maha Kumbh-2025 in Prayagraj on Sunday, setting the stage for one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. During his visit, the Chief Minister also reviewed the ongoing preparations for the event, interacted with saints, and performed religious rituals.
Yogi Adityanath expressed his thoughts on social media, sharing that he had the opportunity to connect with revered saints in Prayagraj, a city deeply rooted in religion, culture, and spirituality. He described the upcoming Maha Kumbh as a divine and grand occasion, embodying the eternal symbol of the Sanatan faith, and wished it to be auspicious for all.
Preparations for Maha Kumbh-2025, which will take place from January 14 to February 26, are in full swing. Tight security measures are being planned to ensure the safety of the millions of pilgrims expected to attend. The highlight of the festival will be the three main bathing days, also known as "Shahi Snan" or royal baths. These will be held on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).
In an effort to enhance facilities for the countless tourists and devotees attending the festival, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced subsidies to upgrade roadside eateries, restaurants, and hotels along the major routes leading to Prayagraj. The aim is to provide better amenities and ensure a comfortable experience for all visitors.
During his visit, Yogi Adityanath conducted site inspections and discussed progress with officials, emphasising the importance of preparedness for the massive influx of devotees.
Ensuring the smooth organisation of the festival is seen as vital, as Maha Kumbh is not just a spiritual gathering but also a cultural showcase of India’s heritage.
Meanwhile, Mahant Hari Giri, the head of Juna Akhara, made some strong remarks regarding the participation of non-Sanatan religious groups. According to him, only individuals who are devoted to Sanatan Dharma and wish to contribute positively to the mela should be allowed to attend.
He expressed concerns over security and purity of the festival, stating that in previous years, the presence of non-Sanatan people had led to issues that disrupted the event.
To maintain order, Giri stated that all attendees would be required to undergo identity verification through their Aadhar cards. This move aims to ensure that only those genuinely interested in the traditions and sanctity of the Maha Kumbh are present.
He also urged the Uttar Pradesh government to implement strict measures regarding the sale and consumption of meat and liquor in and around the fairgrounds.
Giri emphasised that such items should be banned within a 10-kilometre radius of the event site to maintain the purity of the festival. He highlighted the importance of preserving the spiritual atmosphere of the Maha Kumbh, stressing that it is the responsibility of the Sanatan community to uphold the sanctity of the gathering.
Another noteworthy aspect mentioned by Giri was related to the name of Maha Kumbh itself. He pointed out that the term "Mahakumbh" has Persian roots, derived from Sanskrit, and that there is an ongoing discussion about renaming the event to better reflect its cultural origins. A two-day meeting is planned to deliberate on this matter, and a government order may be issued to officially change the name.
The Maha Kumbh Mela is an iconic event, drawing millions of devotees from across the world. It holds a special place in Hindu tradition, symbolising a convergence of faith, spirituality, and devotion. The unveiling of the logo and the comprehensive preparations underscore the significance of this gathering for the Indian spiritual landscape.
Prayagraj, often referred to as Tirthraj (the king of pilgrimages), is already witnessing a transformation as preparations intensify. The city, with its historical confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers, serves as a focal point for devotees seeking spiritual salvation.
Maha Kumbh-2025 is expected to be a grand showcase, with the state government and religious bodies working in tandem to ensure a well-organised event.
With measures to secure the event, enhance amenities for pilgrims, and address concerns raised by spiritual leaders like Mahant Hari Giri, the Uttar Pradesh government is taking a proactive approach to make Maha Kumbh-2025 a memorable experience.
As preparations unfold, there is a collective hope that the festival will bring blessings to all who participate, while highlighting the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of India.
