The Congress party has announced its list of seven candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly by-elections, scheduled to take place on November 13. This announcement marks a crucial step for the party as it prepares to contest these by-polls, which are expected to be a key test of political influence ahead of the larger state elections.
Among the candidates, Amit Ola has been fielded for the Jhunjhunu seat, Aryaan Zubair for Ramgarh, Deen Dayal Bairwa for Dausa, and Kastoor Chand Meena will represent Deoli-Uniara. Ratan Choudhary is contesting from Khinswar, while Reshma Meena is running for the Salumber (ST) constituency.
Finally, Mahesh Roat will contest the Chorasi (ST) seat. These candidates will represent the Congress party in their respective constituencies, hoping to secure a win for the party in the upcoming by-elections.
The announcement of candidates was followed by a message from Congress' Rajasthan chief, Govind Dotasra, who expressed confidence in the party’s victory.
Posting on social media platform X, Dotasra congratulated the candidates and extended his best wishes, stating, “Hearty congratulations to all the Congress candidates and best wishes for victory in advance. I have full faith that in the by-elections, the public will give strength to public issues by making the Congress candidates victorious with a huge margin and will teach a lesson to the failed BJP government.”
These by-elections in Rajasthan are part of a broader electoral landscape, as voters across 48 assembly constituencies in 15 states prepare to cast their ballots on November 13.
States involved in these by-polls include Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and Rajasthan. The elections are being seen as critical in determining the political dynamics ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The bypolls will be held in two phases. The first phase, which covers 47 Assembly constituencies and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala, will occur on November 13.
The second phase is scheduled for November 20, focusing on the Kedarnath Assembly constituency in Uttarakhand and the Nanded parliamentary seat in Maharashtra. The counting of votes for both phases will take place on November 23.
These elections are being closely watched, as they will provide insight into the electorate’s mood in various regions, especially in states like Rajasthan, where political tensions between the Congress and the BJP remain high.
Rajasthan, which is often a battleground for the two major parties, will see significant competition, and the results of these by-polls could influence the upcoming full-scale state elections.
The Congress party’s campaign is heavily focused on issues such as governance, development, and public dissatisfaction with the BJP government at both the state and national levels.
With leaders like Govind Dotasra rallying the party and emphasising the failures of the BJP, the Congress is hopeful that it can gain momentum and secure victories in the by-elections.
On the other hand, the BJP, which currently governs Rajasthan, will be looking to maintain its hold on the state by winning key constituencies in the by-polls.
The outcome of these elections could have a significant impact on the BJP’s standing, not only in Rajasthan but also on the national stage, as it prepares for the 2024 general elections.
As the election date approaches, both parties are expected to intensify their campaigns, with high-profile leaders making appearances and holding rallies to sway the voters.
The by-elections serve as an important precursor to the full state elections, and both the Congress and the BJP will be closely monitoring the results to assess their strengths and weaknesses ahead of the 2024 elections.
For the Congress, these by-polls represent an opportunity to regain some lost ground in Rajasthan and showcase its relevance in a state that has historically alternated between Congress and BJP rule. For the BJP, a strong performance in the by-polls would reinforce its position in the state and set the stage for a strong showing in the upcoming elections.
