Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, former Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla, and others paid their respects to Captain Thapa at Bengdubi Military Station near Siliguri, upon his arrival from Bagdogra by air.


The mortal remains of Captain Brijesh Thapa, who lost his life battling heavily armed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda, arrived at his hometown in Lebong, Darjeeling district, on Thursday.

 

Residents lined the winding roads from Siliguri to Lebong, paying their heartfelt respects to the brave Gorkha hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

 

Escorted by Army personnel, state officials, and a somber procession of mourners, Captain Thapa's flower-adorned hearse van solemnly carried him to his ancestral home at Jing Tea Estate in Lebong.

 

Darjeeling District Magistrate Preeti Goyal confirmed that the cremation ceremony will be held on Friday morning.

 

Throughout the journey, echoes of "Brijesh Thapa Amar Rahe" filled the air as crowds gathered in towns like Kurseong, Sonada, Ghoom, and Darjeeling to honor the martyred soldier.

 

Upon arrival at Thapa's residence in Lebong, neighbors and well-wishers gathered to offer their condolences and support to the grieving family.

 

Earlier, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, former Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla, and others paid their respects to Captain Thapa at Bengdubi Military Station near Siliguri, following his arrival from Bagdogra by air.

 

Captain Brijesh Thapa, a third-generation Army officer at 27 years old, had served with the 145 Air Defence Regiment of the Army and was on deputation to 10 Rashtriya Rifles.

 

His mother, Nilima Thapa, shared that he belonged to the 145 Air Defence Regiment and was on deputation to 10 Rashtriya Rifles.

 

He had visited home on leave in March before his tragic demise in the line of duty.
